Oslo

Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Trier has ventured back to his homeland to tell the story of Anders. Anders (played by Anders Danielsen Lie) is a 34 year-old man who is struggling getting his life together: he is just finally completing his drug rehabilitation program and is hoping to get back into a job. The movie is an intense depiction of a man contemplating death.

From the observations we make while accompanying Anders, we are forced to do none other wonder: will he find purpose in a world he’s been separated from for so long, or will he simply give up? In Oslo, we see how a scarred man makes efforts to let go of his haunting past and forget his mistakes. Not very often do you get a look at a life that is apparently useless, spare, and serving no purpose. For a film that supplies us with this outlook, it is done in an incredible way full of great shots of scenery and a scene-stealing actor.
