Screened and awarded at the Mill Valley Film Festival in October 2011, Pariah, a film by Dee Rees, has caught the eyes of LGBT communities around the world. The film tells the story of a young African American woman, Alike, living in Brooklyn, New York who is coming to terms with her sexual identity as a lesbian. Recently praised in the New York Times and a South African newspaper, Pariah has brought to light a community of struggling young adults that in the past was kept hidden.
